Hi,

I am a dentist from India wanting to enter in the corporate world in the US and ultimately start a business on my own (sounds crazy). I have funds (including loans) in the tune of $30-50,000 max.
Is a US MBA the right way to go about it? But I think since I do not have a Marketing/Finance background, jobs after MBA would be tougher than usual.

Other option is do an MS in a non-clinical branch – PhD – teaching in a university – which I believe is less risky in the present job and visa scenario. Of course it’s a compromise.

Or can I take the PhD-teaching route after an MBA if I don’t get a job in the corporate sector?

Any ideas or similar experiences in this regard.

Dentists make very good money in the United States; are you planning on starting a practice or do you not want to be a dentist anymore? If you want to start a dental practice in the United States you don't need a business degree. If you are tired of your job and want to start a small business getting a bachelors in business or getting a partner would probably be a better solution for you. A bachelor in business administration with entreprenuership option or something would be a lot less expensive. Starting and running a successful small business can be done with a lot of hard work and determination and doesn't require a degree, just experience in your planned field and managing money. Keep in mind business loans usually require a 1/3rd minimum down payment. It sounds like you need to decide what you want to do, dentist, college teacher, or business owner and then you can decide what is the best path for you as each one has a different way you should go.
