I'm surprized no one mentioned anything about Carly Fiorina getting the can at HP. Helpful or not she did make a big impression on the industry with the HP/Compaq merger.

I think the key word in your post is impression. She spent so much time in front of the camera that she failed to execute any of the objectives the board wanted to accomplish after the merger. You would think they would be somewhat competitive with Dell but they weren't. I'm not sure if this is a case where the CEO didn't have enough faith in the direction the board was taking or she just didn't execute well enough. Either way, it shows us that the CEO is accountable to a company's board of directors and its stockholders. I think this would make a good case study.

Anyone that's read my posts knows I'm a FoxNews zealot, anyways, they were reporting that the HP founders were behind Carly's boot. Apparently they never liked her, didn't want the compaq merger, and finally got a bit of revenge.
