If you have a technical background, perhaps there are more choices.

After seeing recent job trends in my company, I would lean towards telling people not to necessarily specialize. I've seen MBA's who had a technical background and never branched out get phased out of a job either because their jobs moved or their position is no longer needed. I highly recommend MBA's stay abreast of trends in finance, technology, marketing, supply chain management, and general management. I know that's easier said than done(I certainly don't plan on leaving my technical job any time soon) but flexibility is something that can keep an MBA's options open in a fickle job market.

All of the articles that I have recently read about MBA graduate job prospects seem to be showing a recent upward trend in all areas. Although the market isn't as bright as it was before it is certainly a lot better than it has been recently. No matter what a good candidate with solid work experience and great work ethic is still a great employee and a bad one is a bad one.
