Dear Member,
I am a MBA from New Port University USA and having total 19 years of experience in Genrel Administration. I am currently employed as CEO of group of companies.
My interest is to join Ph.D programme of any reputed University through On line or distance learning method.
But i am confused regarding selection of repute institution for this purpose.
Is any body can guide me in this matter?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums bharat,
You probably won't benefit from getting a phd in business. There is little you can do with one in the business world. If you want to get into university reseach/teaching then its necessary but most universities will want phds who came from traditional programs.

Good point Phil.
Many recruiters will view you as 'overeducated' if you have a Ph.D. Unless you want to do something highly technical like trade exotic derivatives, a Ph.D. is not likely to advance your career in the business sector.

Hi everybody!
I am still not satisfied with the answers to my query.
Getting Ph. D, i think so it's not matter of satisfaction nor it has to be considered as a over education but it may the only highest degree available, [cosidering the education in a vertical way.] After MBA either one has to stop studying further or has to go for further study. Than, option for study is available - horizontally or vertically. There are so many lines available for study horizontally like CPA,CMA etc. I don't know i may be the wrong in this way. But, option is still pending for me if i have to study further.
Thanks,
bharat
Well, check this out, list of online phd degree programs (http://www.cgedonline.net/jsp/Online_Degrees/PhD_Degrees/).
Online php degree programs? So it is a home-study program?

Hi there,
In my opinion a Ph.D study focus in a specific subject matter and that would not be very useful or appropriate for a management or entrepeneurial environment. Besides the education environment and few organizations that need researchers in specific areas, in my humble opinion many employers could perceive a Ph.D as a theorical individual and unable to adapt to the pace of a business environment. Just my thoughts.

I am kinda skeptical about getting it online.
Online programs- although I love the idea- still are not enough credible

Also with Ph.D programs in business, its not really looked at in the business world as being valuable. Even in the academic world you will not get too many opportunities because they prefer your Ph.D program to be from an AACSB accreditted program. There not any online doctorate programs that have this accreditation. You can get work in a non-traditional school as a curriculum manager or center director. There is big money in that right now. If you get a Ph.D it would be more beneficial to get it in Organizational Management(or something similar) instead of business. Its more flexibility as far as the thesis and the curriculum won't overlap with the MBA curriculum.

New Port University USA does not look like an accredited university. You may need to complete MBA from a regionally accredited university first inorder for you to join a reputed/regionally accredited online PHD program.
Some of the schools are
Touro International University - www.tourou.edu (http://www.tourou.edu)
Northcentral University - www.ncu.edu (http://www.ncu.edu)
Capella University - www.capella.edu (http://www.capella.edu)
Walden University - www.waldenu.edu (http://www.waldenu.edu)
All the above are regionally accredited and their degrees are recognised worldwide.

I was considering getting the PhD. Just cause it would be cool to be called Dr. Slater.
If I were going to get a PhD for the business world I would get it in communications. That is the only thing that is really important once you \get up near the top.

If you insist on getting a PhD, from my own point of view, i'll advise u get a PhD in a more technical background. For instance, if u did computer science as undergrad, u got an MBA and work in the same line of field but in management...then it'll b best to get a PhD in a computer science related field. Hope you get a glipmse of insight here.
