Ah ... one of surviving crappy sites from dot-com era, Lycos is shutting down ... Well, not quite, but it's shutting down chat, BBS, clubs and images. On one hand, I feel like that the net is getting cleaned up as these sites are shutting down, but on the other hand, I feel a little ... sad, old days of the internet is really becoming old days; Lycos is fading into the background. It's pretty amazing.

It is too bad. I remember the superbowl ads they ran with that Lycos dog. Looks like they invested poorly.

I applaud them for making the "survivors" such as msn.com, yahoo, and google more competitive. I think it was the look and feel of their site. I also remember their search engine results didn't seem as relevant as google and yahoo.

Ditto with excite. I never did get 'excited' about them either.
