Hi All,

I've seen another thread in an earlier similar post, but didn't want to hi-jack another person thread (cause my question is specific) so I ask my question here.

I am a transport/traffic (civil) engineer and am about to get my professional license. I am thinking of getting an MBA so I can work for organization / agencies and governments that need financing for infrastructure. My questions is does this type of job really exist? And do they need a person that have both engineering and business knowledge?

Thanks.

I think an MBA may sidetrack you if Traffic Engineering is the field you want to specialize in. Lot of senior traffic engineers have a PhDs in that field or related fields such as OR (besides the experience) that helps them with impact studies, model formulation, etc.

Of course, there is an aspect of managing people, project timelines, dealing with customers and regulatory agencies, doing ROI, Cost estimates and other statistical calculations for a traffic engineering project and an MBA will help you with that but I am not sure if an MBA will either make you a better traffic engineer or promote you to an executive position in government or companies that hire traffic engineers.
